А, Warning signs

Group "А" contains the red-and-white triangular signs that warn drivers about hazards ahead. They are placed before the hazardous section at a distance that gives the driver time to react.

Б, Priority signs

Group "Б" governs right-of-way — who yields to whom when paths meet or merge.

В, Prohibition signs

Group "В" forbids specific actions — entry, overtaking, stopping, and so on — or revokes a previously imposed restriction.

Г, Mandatory signs

Group "Г" imposes mandatory actions — direction of travel, minimum speed, lane use, and so on.

Д, Special-instruction signs

Group "Д" provides information on traffic organisation — lanes, directions, and the start/end of special regimes (motorway, built-up area, tunnel, etc.).

Е, Information signs

Group "Е" provides useful information about wayside services and facilities — first aid, fuel, parking, hospitality, etc.

Ж, Direction and destination signs

Group "Ж" provides information on directions, destinations, road numbers, cycling routes, and similar.

Т, Supplementary plates

Group "Т" contains supplementary plates fitted below the main signs to qualify their effect — distance, length, time, vehicle type, and so on.
